Constipation can be a frustrating and uncomfortable side effect of weight loss medications, but with the right approach, it can often be effectively managed and even prevented. Incorporating a combination of lifestyle changes, including exercise, dietary adjustments, and proper hydration, can play a crucial role in promoting regular bowel movements and alleviating discomfort.

Here are some practical tips to help prevent and relieve constipation:

Hydrate adequately: Ensure you're drinking enough fluids throughout the day. Aim for a minimum of 2 liters of fluid daily to support healthy digestion and bowel function.

Boost fiber intake slowly: Gradually increase your consumption of fiber-rich foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds. Our dietitians recommend gradually incorporating 1-2 extra servings of vegetables over three days, followed by adding one additional piece of fruit to your daily intake.

Stay active: Regular physical activity can help stimulate bowel movements and promote overall gastrointestinal health. Aim to incorporate exercise into your daily routine, whether it's walking, cycling, swimming, or any other activity you enjoy.
